The goals of the Central Lakes Regional Planning Team are to provide programming that connects members of the secondary school community with college pathways and to promote strong connections between the two sectors. We work with students, their teachers and their parents from elementary and secondary schools in our geographical region. We pride ourselves on the work we’ve accomplished.
The team is a successful collaborative effort between Georgian College, the Simcoe County District School Board, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, the Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board.
We respond to the parameters set by the School College Work Initiative (SCWI), a provincial organization that funds our projects and those of 15 other Regional Planning Teams across Ontario. Each year the Central Lakes Regional Planning Team is responsible for all proposals from our region to the SCWI and for the delivery and outcomes of the projects approved.
SCWI began in 1997, and has seen dramatic growth. With funding from the ministries of Education and Training, Colleges and Universities, a co-management team chooses projects each year that meet the SCWI mandate of assisting in creating a seamless transition for students from secondary school to college. The Central Lakes Regional Planning Team began its work with two Mathematics Regional Forums in 2003. We were among the first teams to pilot dual credits in 2005. The number of dual credit students has increased to more than a thousand.
